What is HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY (HBOT)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a safe and effective way to increase the amount of oxygen delivered to your cells, promoting healing and wellness. Our HBOT chamber uses advanced technology to deliver pressurized oxygen that can help reduce inflammation, promote tissue repair, and improve circulation. HBOT is a gentle and calming therapy that can help with a variety of health issues, including chronic pain, traumatic brain injuries, and autoimmune illnesses.

Breathing oxygen in a pressured atmosphere boosts the body's systems for healing. There is little feeling when receiving HBO treatment. During pressurization, the pressure shift causes a "fullness" accumulation in your ears. This sensation is akin to diving into the bottom of a swimming pool, driving through the mountains, or flying in a plane. The technician will demonstrate how to remove this heaviness so that you do not experience discomfort throughout your treatment.

Purpose Of Treatment

#

Reduces Swelling

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) promotes a general constriction of blood vessels, which helps to decrease edema or swelling in affected areas.

#

Boosts Immune Response

HBOT activates the immune system, aiding in the fight against bacteria and other pathogens, enhancing the body's natural defenses.

#

Promotes Tissue Regeneration

The increased oxygen levels from HBOT stimulate cells to rebuild tissues, accelerating the healing process.

#

Neutralizes Toxins

HBOT can inactivate harmful toxins produced by bacteria, reducing their impact on the body.

#

Supports Blood Vessel Growth

The therapy encourages the rebuilding of small blood vessels like capillaries, improving circulation and tissue health.

#

Enhances Stem Cell Activity

HBOT boosts the release of stem cells, which play a crucial role in tissue repair and regeneration.

#

Assists Bone Healing

HBOT helps clear infections in bones and supports the growth of new bone tissue, aiding in the recovery from bone-related conditions.

#

Supporting Autism Spectrum Disorders

HBOT boosts oxygen levels, which may reduce inflammation, heal tissue, and improve neurological function. Some studies show it may reduce autistic symptoms including sensory sensitivity, communication issues, and behavioral issues.

#

Enhancing Fertility

HBOT increases oxygen supply and blood vessel development, improving reproductive health. Optimizing ovarian function, egg quality, implantation, and inflammation-related infertility variables may boost fertility.

#

Addressing Neurological Diseases

HBOT may help stroke, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and traumatic brain injury. Oxygenation to injured brain tissue may accelerate healing, decrease inflammation, and assist neuronal regeneration, increasing cognitive function, motor abilities, and quality of life.

Benefits for Specific Populations

When the treatment starts, you will hear a hissing sound as the chamber pressurizes. You may also feel a momentary rise in temperature during this compression. A professional will modify the pace of compression based on your tolerance and instruct you on how to relieve the full feeling in your ears. The compression part of the therapy typically lasts 10-15 minutes, depending on how successful you are in relieving the pressure in your ears.

When you reach the appropriate pressure in the chamber, the ear pressure sensation will go away. You should feel completely normal at this time. Throughout the duration of the treatment, you may watch television, listen to music, sleep, or simply rest. Treatments normally last around two hours.

At the completion of your treatment, the pressure will gradually diminish over 10-15 minutes. As the pressure decreases during decompression, you will feel a popping sensation in your ears. This popping is a typical change in pressure within your ears. Generally, you experience no aftereffects from HBO therapy, however, some patients report a crackling sensation in their ears between treatments. This can be eased in the same way as cleaning your ears during compression. If the crackling continues, please contact the staff. Furthermore, some patients report feeling lightheaded for a few seconds after treatment, although the episode is brief and the patients are quickly able to resume their usual daily activities. As with any medical surgery or therapy, hyperbaric oxygen exposure may cause certain negative effects. These are uncommon, but they will be explained in detail with you before you sign your "Consent for Treatment" form.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT): Comprehensive Patient Guidelines and Protocols

  • 1 Appointment Guidelines To ensure the success of your treatment plan, please keep all scheduled appointments. Follow-up sessions allow you and your physician to assess your progress. It’s essential to stick to your treatment plan until you've achieved your goals and your physician agrees that treatment can conclude. If you must reschedule, notify the clinic as soon as possible.
  • 2 Visitor Policy Visitors are welcome, but children must remain in the reception area at all times. If you would like a tour, please arrange it in advance to avoid interrupting other patients' treatments. After the tour, visitors must return to the reception area until your treatment is completed.
  • 3 Preparing for Treatment On treatment days, arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time. Change into approved clothing and attend to any personal needs beforehand. The staff will check your vital signs, and if applicable, your blood sugar. You can continue your usual medication unless your physician advises otherwise. Don't consume carbonated drinks an hour before treatment, as this can cause stomach cramps. Inform staff if you have any cold or flu symptoms, including sinus drainage, stuffy ears or nose, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, or diarrhea.

HBOT Treatment Process

Descent

Compressed gas fills the chamber, and a technician will be present throughout the process. It's important to clear your ears to avoid discomfort or trauma. Various techniques can help, such as yawning, swallowing, or the Valsalva maneuver (pinching your nose and blowing out). If you're unable to relieve the pressure, inform the technician immediately. Standard treatments last around two hours. The oxygen hood or mask will be removed periodically in multi-place chambers, while in mono-place chambers, you will breathe air during breaks. Remove the mask or hood only when instructed.

Ascent

During the ascent, compressed gas is released, which might cause the temperature to drop. Your ears may pop or crackle; do not perform the Valsalva maneuver or drink water during this time. If the pressure doesn’t relieve on its own, inform the technician. Breathe normally during the ascent, and do not hold your breath.

Items Not Allowed in the Chamber

Avoid synthetic clothing, wool, silk, oil-based products, make-up, nail polish, hair spray, electronic devices, non-pressurized watches, newspapers, and hard contact lenses. Always seek approval from the technician for any items you wish to bring.

Items Allowed in the Chamber

You may bring drinking water, 100% cotton clothing, one book or magazine (multi-place only), and tissues (multi-place only).

Tobacco Use

If you smoke, refrain from smoking before and immediately following the treatment. Nicotine constricts small blood vessels and reduces your body's ability to absorb oxygen, which can reduce the effectiveness of HBOT.

Frequently Asked Questions

HBOT is a non-invasive form of hyperbaric oxygen therapy that involves breathing 100% oxygen in a mild pressurized chamber. The pressure in our chamber is typically 1.7, which is lower than traditional hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

During HBOT, the increased pressure and oxygen levels in the chamber cause more oxygen to dissolve in the blood, which can help to increase the amount of oxygen delivered to damaged tissues and promote healing.

HBOT can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, traumatic brain injury, and some neurological disorders.

HBOT is generally considered safe when performed by a licensed and qualified healthcare professional. However, like any medical treatment, there are potential risks and side effects. These will be discussed with you prior to starting treatment.

During an HBOT session, you will lie down in a mild pressurized chamber and breathe 100% oxygen for a designated period of time, typically between 60-90 minutes. You may experience a feeling of pressure in your ears, similar to the sensation during a flight.

HBOT sessions typically last between 60-90 minutes, depending on the individual needs and treatment plan.

The number of mHBOT sessions needed will vary depending on the individual and the condition being treated. Some people may experience relief after just one session, while others may require several sessions to see significant improvement.

Some insurance plans may cover mHBOT if it is prescribed by a healthcare provider as part of a treatment plan. However, it is best to check with your insurance provider to determine coverage.

HBOT is not recommended for pregnant women, as there is a risk of oxygen toxicity to the fetus. If you are pregnant or trying to conceive, it is important to inform your healthcare provider before starting HBOT.
